JAY OLIVER YIP
CREATIVE
WRITER-DIRECTOR | PRODUCER | ACTOR | IMMERSIVE STROYTELLER
Jay is an award-winning filmmaker whose work deftly lends sharp wit with heartwarming moments, creating understated comedies about lost souls yearning to discover themselves and placing the British East Asian experience front and centre. With a calm, compassionate approach to his craft, his work explores themes of family, identity, interculturality, and self-discovery—always with a cheeky flair that sets his storytelling apart.
His journey in entertainment started as an actor, co-founding the regional touring theatre company Hammerpuzzle and appearing in notable TV shows like Doctors (BBC), Rain Dogs (BBC/HBO MAX), and Grace (ITV). In 2013, Jay co-founded Wolfpack Productions, a creative hub that produced award-winning web series and short films, earning him a spot on the 2018 Nespresso Talents UK shortlist.
As a director, Jay’s sharp eye shines through in his work, including multi-award-winning short comedy Barista and compelling monologues such as Stepping Stone and Choice for the ACE-funded Creating Apart showcase. He also shadowed director Mingyu Lin on Hollyoaks, gaining invaluable insights into directing for television.
Jay's writing is just as impressive, with his comedy-horror pilot Hypsteries making it to the Quarter-Finals of the Shore Scripts competition and his comedy-drama pilot Withstanding the Heat longlisted for the BBC Writers Room and All 3 Media New Comedy Voices.
Now an associate artist of B3 Media, Jay is exploring exciting platforms to tell his stories through immersive tech. And when he’s not working, you can find him indulging in cinnamon swirls and offering unsolicited advice at the most unexpected moments.
